Bharatnatyam is all about commitment.

For some dance is a way to unwind while for others is a matter of complete devotion. For 18-year-old Bharatnatyam dancer, Anupriya Guha this form of creativity is all about commitment.

About her passion for dance, Anupriya says, “For me Bharatnatyam is not just my interest but my soul. I had a penchant for dance ever since my childhood days and my parents encouraged me a lot. I learnt Bharatnatyam from my first guru, Yamini Krishnamurthy when I was just five. For last nine years, I am training under Saroja Vaidyanathan. But I have to say I am inspired by my mom who is my guide and confidante.”

Anupriya who is a student of Ganesha Natyalaya presented her solo debut performance, Bharatnatyam Arangetram on  January 28, 2006 at Kamani Auditorium. Now she is all set to woo the audience with her recital in the city on Saturday.

Despite being devoted to dance,  Anupriya hasn’t let her education take a backseat. She is a first year student of Mathematics at Kamala Nehru College and after her graduation she intends to do an MBA in finance.

About managing academics and her dance, she says, “For me both are very important and are my priorities. I have gained inspiration from Shovana Narayan who is an IA&AS and at the same time a Kathak exponent.
